Time is one of the most common resources for everybody. As any other resource, it is limited and in most cases poorly managed. In any person’s activity, time stands for a variable in the equation. Most of us loose around three hours a day, without realizing how those hours were spent. This “loss” is not intended or conscious. If it were like that, it would be easy to correct it. The time loses are due, in most cases, to unhealthy habits. For example, it’s almost a rule that easy tasks are solved first and more difficult tasks are left for the end of the day. Or you start working on something, you are interrupted, forget what it was all about and start with something else, this way risking not to finish anything in due time.
The starting point for my post is a true fact: the last person to join our team found out about our available position as a Flash Designer from a friend who read Radu’s post. We had a lot of problems with finding the right person for the job. The applicants were either under-qualified, either vain, or they didn’t fit the profile because of their attitude. In other words the recruiting process was a complete failure. However, the applications and answers that we received from Radu’s blog made a difference, making us wonder if during all this time we looked in the right direction.
Here would be a proper place and time when we can start talking about a company blog. There are some very important characteristics that such a blog has: transparency, relevancy, accuracy etc. To all these characteristics we can add one more: a company blog can become a very important tool if you want to make talented individuals join the team. Why does this happen? The answer is simple: the search area is more specific, you are addressing a target audience that is interested in what you have to say as a company, you can benefit from the company’s good name and prestige.
Also, I want to talk about the difference between a blog which has as the only purpose recruitment - and a company blog. The latter has the advantage that it gives the potential new team member valuable inside details about the company, about the team, in other words such a blog gives the potential new comer a starting point in creating for himself a realistic picture about the company that he wants to join. Of course, this may only happen if all the posts that are written are sincere.
